Newarkers now have a more convenient way to handle probate matters with the New Castle County Register of Wills.
The department recently began holding monthly office hours at the Newark Free Library to allow Newark residents a chance to take care of business without making the drive into the main office in downtown Wilmington.
The office hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month. Appointments are required.
The department has offered a similar service at the Appoquinimink Library in Middletown for the last decade. Middletown hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month.
“It is our priority to make the Office of the Register of Wills as accessible as possible to those who need to navigate the probate process,” Register of Wills Ciro Poppiti said in a prepared statement. “We understand that folks work during the day and cannot take time off to come to downtown Wilmington to our office. I am grateful to our county libraries for sharing their space with us. Middletown evening hours have been an overwhelming success, and I am delighted to launch Newark evening hours.”
County Councilwoman Lisa Diller, who represents much of the Newark area, lauded the new office hours.
“I am pleased that the Register of Wills will expand service to the Newark area by offering evening hours, and I look forward to promoting this opportunity to 5th District residents,” Diller said in a prepared statement.
